Christmas Eve turns Christmas Evil as a horror icon gains tenuous link to my family!

Well, hello, everyone! Merry Christmas! Technically, it’s Christmas Eve, but my family usually celebrates the evening before as it’s easiest to get us all together that way. Still, it’s the most wonderful time of the year and all. I really do love the holidays. As this is a blather post I’ll save you from too many news updates, but I will say that while the programming guide is still under construction, I did find a way to better adjust the layout of each guide page so it looks as it should on desktop and mobile, and all it took was a few CSS tweaks. I’m really proud of the work I’ve done and I’m excited for what the future holds.

But enough about that! Look at the title of this post!! There’s not much more context than that, but basically as we were doing gifts, one of the nice things I got was Shout Factory’s Vincent Price Collection, a lovely Blu-Ray set containing The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit & The Pendulum, The Masque of the Red Death, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Witchfinder General, and The Haunted Palace.

The man himself – and a few other gifts I received.

You know that thing I said this update would be about?

It's not! I fooled you! It's all a trick!

“The next update will be me announcing that the Programming Guide is done! Really!” – the me of one month ago.

I was a fool. Oh, what a fool I was. Not content with simply making a cool website that works, I decided to play with a new toy, using the Static Site Generator 11ty to turn the announcements page from a simple page to a whole darn blog-type-thing! All those IDs I added to allow jumping to different points on the page? Gone! For naught! One month! It all lasted one month!

There’s a new category in town.

It's called "blather", and baby, I'm blathering.

Hey all. Erin here. So, part of the reason I wanted to make the news section a fancy little “blog” was not just to make the updates all cool, but also to have a place to toss up rambles and little thoughts that might not be “article-worthy”. What constitutes that? Well, that’s for me to decide and you to find out, I suppose.

Movies I Want In The Criterion Collection

Or, an email I sent to the Criterion suggestions inbox because I might as well shoot my shot.

The Criterion Collection has become something of a fascination for me lately. They’re a company that has been operating since the Laserdisc days, providing top-quality prints of interesting films, replete with a wealth of bonus features. In this modern age of dwindling physical media releases, they’ve remained resolute, and they even have a great streaming channel, The Criterion Channel, to boot.

Something really interesting about Criterion is their movie selection. I love that they seem to be open to a lot of unique choices for what movies they cover while still having a clear brand. You’re going to get artistic, offbeat pictures when you buy from them. Hey, any company that lets me get Hausu, Mulholland Drive, Pink Flamingos, and Fantastic Mr. Fox all at the same time has to be worth their salt. Anyway, while browsing their website, I noticed they had a suggestions email. The first time I saw it I sent them a quick email asking for It’s Such A Beautiful Day and Wild Zero, but a few months later I thought to myself “why not shoot my shot?”. I mean, someone has to read that email address, right?

Come and get your ♥️.

I think it’s safe to say by this point that the Guardians films are my favorite trilogy of Marvel films. The Spider-Man films are definitely up there, but I appreciate just how this series manages to balance humor and emotional gutpunches. After dealing with the topics of losing a loved one, and finding your dad only to realize he’s a terrible person, the one big thing left for Guardians to tackle was moving on from an abusive household, and that’s where Guardians 3 comes in. However, it’s a little more complicated than that.
