My dad’s cousin dated Vincent Price in the 40s.

Christmas Eve turns Christmas Evil as a horror icon gains tenuous link to my family!

Well, hello, everyone! Merry Christmas! Technically, it’s Christmas Eve, but my family usually celebrates the evening before as it’s easiest to get us all together that way. Still, it’s the most wonderful time of the year and all. I really do love the holidays. As this is a blather post I’ll save you from too many news updates, but I will say that while the programming guide is still under construction, I did find a way to better adjust the layout of each guide page so it looks as it should on desktop and mobile, and all it took was a few CSS tweaks. I’m really proud of the work I’ve done and I’m excited for what the future holds.

But enough about that! Look at the title of this post!! There’s not much more context than that, but basically as we were doing gifts, one of the nice things I got was Shout Factory’s Vincent Price Collection, a lovely Blu-Ray set containing The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit & The Pendulum, The Masque of the Red Death, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Witchfinder General, and The Haunted Palace.

The man himself – and a few other gifts I received.

A great selection, especially those Poe films! My personal Price collection would likely replace the last two with the Phibes sequel and Theatre of Blood but you can’t go wrong, really. As I was excitedly showing Mandy this set, my dad casually dropped that a cousin on his grandmother’s side dated Vincent Price once. It was during the 40s, which means he would have been on Broadway and it may have even been around the time he was filming Laura. My dad’s family is complicated as his life is full of pain and a mass amount of family members I know nothing about, but I know he was born in New York and he and members of his family lived there for a while so the math checks out. This still feels like something that would have come up in conversation ages earlier! If I had two degrees of separation from Vincent Price I wouldn’t shut up about it, but I suppose now that I have three I’ll have to bring it up constantly! For all we know, his cousin’s name is floating around in some Price biography somewhere. He did some Googling before I went home and found nothing but wouldn’t that be something?

Well! It’s been a lovely Christmas Eve, and apart from learning earth-shattering info I got lots of great movies and little bits and pieces I may talk about in the future, and I got to surprise Mandy with the AVGN BFG Box Set, the Criterion Godzilla Showa Era set, and more, and we spent the evening playing Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and Third Strike together so basically, I’m beat. Tomorrow is Christmas Day, and who knows what the new year holds? Peace and love, and goodbye for now.
