My Internet Radio Spreadsheet – I have collected over 100 internet radio stations over the years, some of which I’ve highlighted on this page. During a fit of energy I went through my XiiaLive Favorites list and grabbed the URLs of most all of them. I can’t promise all of these links still work as this was started a very long time ago and I don’t always listen to every station here, but many of them do and are really worth checking out. I recommend all the ones on this page as well as Centreforce 883, which I adore.
WTMK: Mario Radio – I don’t know what I’d do without this internet radio station that plays All Mario, All The Time. It’s been a constant in my life for twenty years now, and I still listen to it to fall asleep to. It’s always getting updated, as well! I’d really love to do some voicers for it some day. Anyway, it’s exactly what it sounds like. You like Mario music? You’re getting Mario music. And ads! And little press conferences?! And…sound effects?? It’s great.
SomaFM – One of the only internet radio collections still running strong, surviving on donations and the goodness of listeners like you. You are guaranteed to hear music you’ve never heard before on here, and it’s honestly incredible how many obscure pieces of music they dig up for each niche genre. It’s a veritable sonic smorgasbord. I recommend Underground 80s, DefCon Radio, Beat Blender, SF 10-99, and Vaporwaves, but really you can’t go wrong with any of these. They’re always adding seasonal channels and temporary channels as well. It’s so cool.
Rainwave – A completely awesome set of videogame-themed internet radio stations. You can select from Game Music, Chiptune, OC Remix, Covers, or all of the above, and if you have an account you can even vote on what’s to be played next. I usually just listen to the streams as they come, though. I love everything about this site, even down to how the webmaster replied to my email when I asked if it was possible to put the station streams on my physical internet radio. Which, by the way, it is! You really can’t beat a good old IceCast server.
Radio80 – In high school I lived in Italy, and when I wasn’t listening to the Gyakuten Orchestra or Jazz Soul albums, the Gitaroo Man soundtrack, or various Daft Punk albums, I was listening to Radio80, or Radio Ottanta. This is Italy’s 80’s station, and since it’s all about the Italo-Disco era you’re going to hear tons of totally unique songs you’re not gonna hear elsewhere. I used to hold my portable cassette player up to the boombox speaker to make mixtapes, and it’s thanks to this station I know songs like Tech-No-Logical World, One Night In Bangkok, and this really cool remix of Tubular Bells. Whenever I feel a little nostalgic for my high school years, this station’s imaging brings me right back.
Mydora – Myspace was once a huge hub to find independent music. In 2018, a botched server migration lost it all. Thankfully, the Internet Archive managed to get around half a million songs recovered and someone’s made a really fun and cool way to shuffle through them all! It’s an adventure! You can even select the genre! I’ve already ran into some really awesome stuff! And you can even right-click the audio player and save them if you like them. It keeps a history, too, so if you miss a song and want to grab it later just go to the Dragon Hoard searcher to find it.
WFMU – An independent freeform radio station in New Jersey that plays whatever the DJs want. You get all kinds of shows here, all kinds of music, and all kinds of personalities. I’ve posted about them before, and my favorite show is the morning show, Wake & Bake With Clay Pigeon. I listen to it almost every day on my way to work and I’ve discovered so much great music thanks to it. I also love that he uses a Godzilla soundbite sometimes. It’s always fun running into the Big G in the wild.
